What Is The Pentimento Project

The Pentimento Project was created to support people through the physical challenges of cancer treatment, recovery, and survivorship.

The practice was founded by Julie Allen following her own diagnosis and treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Despite extensive clinical experience as a physiotherapist, Julie found that while medical treatment addressed the disease, there was limited support for the physical deconditioning, pain, and loss of confidence that followed treatment. The Pentimento Project was established to address this gap. Care focuses on helping people regain movement, strength, and trust in their bodies during and after cancer treatment.

Our Experience & Training

Care at The Pentimento Project is delivered by an experienced physiotherapist with advanced training in cancer rehabilitation and lymphoedema management.

Julie Allen holds APA Titling in Cancer and Lymphoedema Physiotherapy and has over 15 years of clinical experience across rehabilitation, pain management, and complex physical presentations.

Clinical Leadership & Founder

Julie Allen is the founder of The Pentimento Project, her professional focus shifted following her own diagnosis and treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Despite extensive clinical experience, Julie experienced first-hand the physical deconditioning, pain, and uncertainty that can follow cancer treatment, and the lack of structured rehabilitation support available at that stage.

Our Process

Our Proven Care Process.

Physiotherapy at The Pentimento Project follows a considered, step-by-step approach. Care is individual, paced appropriately, and adapted as treatment, recovery, and capacity change over time.

Your first appointment focuses on understanding your medical history, treatment journey, current symptoms, and goals. Time is taken to assess movement, strength, and any treatment-related changes that may be affecting day-to-day function.

Based on your assessment, a tailored plan is developed to support your needs. This may include physiotherapy treatment, exercise guidance, education, and strategies to manage symptoms safely and effectively.

Care is reviewed regularly and adjusted as needed. Treatment plans evolve alongside changes in treatment, recovery, energy levels, and priorities.

Support may continue beyond active treatment to assist with ongoing recovery, survivorship, and long-term management where required. Telehealth appointments are available when in-person care isn’t possible.
